Though Tenement was initially announced as an original graphic novel, in the announcement for Starseed it had changed to a six-issue miniseries. Inferno and Rosemary’s Baby were both sources of inspiration for the project. It is written to be the centerpiece of the series to date, connecting threads from the previous stories and revealing more of the larger mythology. Tenement was originally meant to be the first major story for The Bone Orchard Mythos, but Jeff Lemire felt it wasn't right and ended up pivoting to The Passageway instead.
